FAQs

Common questions about my services

What areas do you cover?

I cover Penarth and surrounding areas: Llandough, Leckwith, Sully, Dinas Powys, Barry and West Cardiff.

Do you have the neccessary experience and insurances in place?

Absolutely! I am Police checked and fully insured (Public Liability and Key Cover). Certificates can be provided on request. Additionally, I've completed basic pet first aid training.

What if I require additional services for my cat and home?

That's absolutely fine! When you decide to use my Service for the first time, I will arrange to visit you at a mutually convenient time. At this (free) initial visit, I can meet your cat(s) and you can tell me anything I need to know with regards to food, routines, medications, quirks, etc. We can also discuss any additional requirements such as: feeding fish, watering plants, bringing recycling/rubbish bags in and out, opening closing curtains, etc.

If you have a security system, you will need to show me how this operates, and provide me with a spare set of house keys. I will then make house visits over the agreed period.

I ask that you leave sufficient cat food and fresh cat litter and medication (if applicable) in plain view. Nothing else is required.

Should your return be delayed or should you wish to extend your holiday, simply contact me and I will continue to visit for a further period according to your instructions.

What does a typical visit visit look like?

When I visit, I will:

  • Wash the cat's bowls and make sure surrounding area is clean

  • Replenish food and water

  • Clean/replace cat litter

  • Play and socialise with your cat

  • Groom your cat if they enjoy this

  • Check that your cat is generally happy and well

  • Provide lots of reassuring cuddles

Depending on whether you requested any additional services, I will water your plants, take recycling/rubbish bags in and out, take in parcels and post, open and close curtains and turn lights on and off in different rooms for added security measures. I will even give the vacuum cleaner a quick wizz around and put bread and milk in your fridge (helpful for those late night flights home).

How long do you spend with my cat?

Whilst most visits are between 20-30 minutes, I will always stay for an appropriate amount of time for the individual cat(s) in my care. For example, if I am caring for a cat who just wants to eat and run straight back out of the cat flap to continue their adventures, there would be little point in an extended visit. However, if I am caring for cats that really enjoy human company (especially kittens, elderly or timid cats), I would stay to socialise with, reassure, cuddle and groom (if required) them for as long as my schedule would reasonably allow. Socialising with your cat(s) would be a very important element of my visit alongside the practical aspects of providing fresh food, water and litter. Where clients invite me to, I will make a cuppa, put on the TV or have a read if your cat(s) want to snuggle up on my lap.

What happens if my cat becomes unwell while I'm away?

At our Initial Meeting, I will ask you for your Vet's details and also that you sign a consent form allowing me to take your cat to the vet in am emergency. Should I feel there's an issue, I will contact you (if the situation and timescale allows) and if necessary will take your cat to the vets (this would normally be your own vets). This is an extremely rare occurrence but please be assured that I would never hesitate to consult a vet where necessary. Additionally, I have completed basic pet fist aid training.

What security precautions do you take?

I am DBS checked and fully insured. Certificates can be provided on request. Additionally, I can show you my Driving Licence (confirming address) in our Initial Meeting if requested.

My Service is discreet and I do not arrive in a vehicle with any advertising, so's not to advertise the fact that you are away from home!

Your house keys will be stored securely in a safe when not in use and will be posted through your letterbox after my last visit, or dropped off to you upon your return (as agreed).

What is the process for booking and making payment?

To book, please either use the contact form on this website or email me directly at alicethecatlady@gmail.com and I will get back to you as soon as possible to discuss your needs. Alternatively, ring or text me on 07738831283.

What if I need to cancel?

I would be grateful if any cancellations could be made with at least 24 hours notice.
